29* Let it go

It may be that you haven’t seen yet the musical-animated movie “Frozen” but we all have heard about it and the Oscar it recently won. Moreover its soundtrack is compared to the one of “The lion king” for its musical mastery.

Here the video of this song at the Oscar’s gala in which after a brief presentation made by John Travolta who saddly couldn’t pronunce well the name of the wickedly talented Idina Menzel at second 35 the real magic begins. And he said “wickedly” referring to her participation in the musical play “Wicked” since she’s an american musical theater actress who has been twice nominated for the Tony.

Today’s song is undoubtedly the most memorable of the whole movie, for the specific scene and the special moment it resembles on it but also because of its singer flawless interpretation. Because of that it also won an Oscar this year.  And it is the first song from a Disney animated musical, since “Colors of the wind” from Pocahontas, to reach the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 since 1995 (!)

Furthermore it has been dubbed into another 42 languages and dialects worldwide without disturbing the message because this musical piece of the movie is specially significant as it summarizes the whole main meaning of “Frozen”

In its music as in its lyrics it shows the strenght of the character in her search for independence while she wanders alone and starts realizing for the first time who capable she is. Being on her own, acting on her own way and feeling free and fullfilled at the same time.

There she stops pretending. No more fake smiles, keeping your feelings inside and making polite sentences to impress.

She goes wild. She becomes free and in 3 minutes turns into a whole different person. Stronger, braver,  sincerest.

Away from society, hypocrisy and criticism what is there to fear?

If there’s anything we can learn from this song is that fear of society is stupid and if we are always worried about “what would they say” it becomes a hurtful reality in which we choose to live.

Instead we must be ourselves, stop caring what people might think about us, because seriously what do they know about us?

We are strong, we are free, we beautiful and we are unique and we all want to be happy. If they can accept the way we express our emotions or how do we try to reach our happiness, they have a problem, not us. We’ll keep living, enjoying and making what we like, no one is going to stop us. We are the ones who decide the limits. Our conscience will be the only valid judge.

So leave the past behind, change if you don’t feel comfortable with who you are right now, change if there’s anything you want to do but haven’t done yet, change your mind if it is keeping you from shining, change your feelings if they aren’t positive, change if you’re still afraid of changing.

So if there’s something undenyable about Disney is that it remind us how important is it to learn from the children. Remember the days you didn’t care about people’s opinion at all, go wild, go playful, have fun and smile! You don’t need to be perfect to feel perfectly fine.

…And the powerful lyrics :

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation,
And it looks like I’m the queen.

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried

Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know

Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door

I don’t care
What they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway

It’s funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all

It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me
I’m free

Let it go, let it go
I am one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You’ll never see me cry

Here I stand
And here I’ll stay
Let the storm rage on

My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m never going back,
The past is in the past

Let it go, let it go
And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone

Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway
