98* I am woman

A woman reminding us since 1975 that women rock.

YES, I AM WOMAN. But more over did you know that 1975 was declared the International Women’s Year by the United Nations?

And this song by the australian singer, Helen Reddy, was chosen as the official theme. #wow #fact #girlpower

Something interesting of this song is that it acknowledged that there still was a “long way to go” in female empowerment in 1975 but I wonder if that way has shorten satisfactorily over time. I’m positive it has at least in a wide range of contexts nevertheless the way to go still remains long and it’s uncertain how far do we need to keep pushing.

Surely evolution of this topic has been faster for some countries but hasn’t evolved equally in other cultures. For example, I was recently watching Sex and The City 2 and besides all the expected sex, fun and friends, the cultural differences between american and arab women are nicely exposed in this film.

Anywho I got to accept that one of my favorite scenes of the movie was watching Carrie, Samatha, Miranda and Charlotte singing “I am woman” at a karoke in Middle East… truly priceless.

But today, let’s go back to basics and enjoy the #vintage and original video of this song…

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
’cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
’cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
’cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

(…)

I am woman watch me grow

See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin’ arms across the land
But I’m still an embryo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
