All you need is romcoms.

So after being single for-ever one starts getting cynical about it. (See what I did there?) But honestly, that’s not a surprise since us stupid human beings have manage to be cynical about almost everything in life that kinda upsets us but we try hard not to let it show, so naturally we start being mean, acting cold and usually talking in an elaborated almost pretentious way instead. #sorrynotsorry

Still, single and all as I am, romantic comedies are my favorite kind of comedies, kind of movies in general actually… No matter how cheesy, predictable, unoriginal or commercial they can be I truly believe they are one of those few still reliable things on earth. From a romcom at least you know what to expect and then also you can expect that every romcom will fulfill your expectations, agree? Even if you’re just expecting it to be super-dork and unreal, you’ll be happy to know that no matter how much terribly-dramatic scenes you watch along, things will go smoothly in the end.

*Except for those painful romcoms as “Me before you”… Gosh, I felt so betrayed when I saw that emotional-ambush! The end got me in tears and not the usual happiness-I wish it was me-tears but the awful P.S. I love you-why are you doing this to me-tears 😦

Yet again: sarcasm. That’s what I need at this exact point of my life. Witty jokes and sharp quotes.

I’m a hopeless romantic and a Valentine’s Grinch at the same time

Yesterday I almost watched “In my dreams” but oh Lord after 2 minutes of watching its stupidly-perfect main characters, I had enough. Both were so sweet and proper! I-couldn’t stand them. As contradictory as this may sound I’m a hopeless romantic and a Valentine’s Grinch at the same time, so what I needed was a pair of characters so wrecked and lost that hopefully wouldn’t make me feel worse about myself.

And luckily enough, I found them!

In a different movie though… (next friday I’ll post about it)

Anyway, as much as I enjoy laughing at catchy lines and sighing at cheesy gestures, deeply inside I know that’s not the main reason why I watch romcoms… I guess there’s nobody who can deny that what we feel when we end up watching a romcom is: hope. Silly, childish, unfounded hope but that still works up your mood and makes you feel blindly positive. You know, like anything could happen and that it could actually happen to you with whom you never ever imagined and when you least expect it!

But also nothing-at-all could happen too because that’s in fact what you least, least expect after watching a romcom. Thereby after some time by your own you might realize that romcoms are just another exageration of life and love, of soulmates, destiny and good luck… and since nothing “romantic” happens to you in a while you’ll need to get back to romcoms to get the perfect substitude of love, your dose of hope; because just like when you are on a diet and you start feeling upset for not being allowed to consume sugar, you have to remember there’s always Splenda to sweeten your life!

And besides The Beatles explained it better:

All you need is love.

The Maze Runner

Don’t look back!

Said Minho (the asian character) to Thomas (Dylan O’brien’s character) when they where running for their lifes inside the Maze.

The comment was meant to help him because, didn’t you feel that Thomas lost time everytime he looked back? And because of that he was ALMOST catch by a griever once!   There’s a metaphor, I’m sure!

And also, this is a spoiler alert(!) so if you haven’t watch the movie or read the book yet, I suggest you to come back later (when you already have) and don’t worry if you’re a “late boomer” like me who knows about movies like this until later than usual.

Now, truth is I’m a girl of METHAPHORS. So I believe Minho was giving us a powerful advice: Looking back is a waste of time. Not only when you run for your life inside a Maze but in your daily life, when you’re too worried about the past instead of focusing on the future, on your goals and dreams, the things that matter. We can’t change what we’ve left behind still sometimes we grieve for things that we did or had, and we don’t see (until it’s too late) that if we let past problems catch us… we loose.

This new movie based on the first book of a saga by James Dashner is AMAZING.

There’re moments of suspense, tenderness and even comedy but moreover it’s full of lessons (I think).

I’m already looking forward to read the complete saga!

What we where before the Maze is irrelevant. What matters is what we’re now and what we’re going to do.

Said Newt (the second in charge) when Thomas tells him he’s guilty of putting them all in there. How not to love Newt? Mature and just. And what to learn about him? The same… the past is irrelevant becase you can’t change it but that the present and the future are what really matters because YOU can decide what to do next.

(Excuse me if the quotes aren’t accurate but I wasn’t precisely writing down in the movie theater so that’s how I remember them. The point is the same but if you know the exact words, comment below and I’ll be happy to change them!)

Almost everybody is afraid of change but it’s what you do about it what matters. You can either face your fears and take the risk. Or keep leaving in fear -on your comfort zone-.

We see it clearly when Thomas told Gally (the antagonist) that he was scared too but anyway he had made a decision, he wasn’t staying, he wasn’t enslaved by fear.

And before that, when in The Maze for the second time, Minho asks Thomas if he’s sure of crossing the door… Thomas said “no” but gave a step forward.

So now you see, when in doubt, act. If something scares you a lot the reward for doing it might be as big.

There are better things ahead. Better things outside the bubbles in which we live but it’s up to us to go out and look out for them, chase our dreams and find what we’re looking for.

The game is constantly changing. It never stops. Just as the maze that changed everynight we live in a world that changes the game rules everyday. So what? Change won’t keep us from trying. It’ll keep us motivated to change too. To keep going, keep learning and keep improving.

The runners” kept wandering The Maze every single day for 3 years without finding a way out and Thomas freed everybody in less than 4 days. Does it means the runners were doing it all wrong? No, perhaps they should’ve tried doing something different instead of trying to find an answer doing the same thing everyday however those 3 years running around The Maze were not in vain because they LEARNED something new everyday. They learned how many sections, passages and levels were in there, and also how the whole thing worked. Minho even memorized the map which was essential to complete their final mission. They just needed that one sparkle of curiosity that Thomas brought along.

So be curious. Don’t be afraid of doing things differently. Ask lots of questions.

The only thing I particulary didn’t enjoy about The Maze Runner was the fact of choosing “zombies” as main antagonists. I hate zombies, sorry, but they’re gross and scary. But still I believe they’re also a good metaphor to show that when humans turn antisocial, angry at each other and violent they stop thinking straight and they’ll mess up society peace.

What’s interesting is that the bright side of the story, the real cure, what represented society’s hope… where those boys. Boys with leadership, strenght, intelligence but above all, with a different mindset.

So be emphatic, humble, loving, caring, sincere. You’ll be loved back. And you’ll also be hated by those who envy you but at the end you’ll stay surrounded by the best people, the only ones you need.

And finally, just remember what Minho said to the boys when they asked him what he thought about Thomas:

I don’t know if he’s brave or stupid but we need more of that.

TFIOS – Quotes2

So this is it.

I already posted many other beautiful quotes of this book before and I wrote a brief opinion about it too. Also you can find some fragments of it on FERSTYLE’s facebook and instagram 🙂

And today here are my last favorite quotes from “The Fault In Our Stars” by John Green!

IMG_20140508_044935 (Some spoilers ahead!)

“It seemed like forever ago, like we’d had this brief but still infinite forever. Some infinities are biger than other infinities.” -Hazel, 233

“Writing does not resurrect. It buries.” -Van Houten, 266

Here the theory on the book where they explain how everyone remembers Shakespeare but nobody knows -neither remembers- the people or special person he wrote about…

“My thoughts are stars I can’t fathom into constellations.” -Augustus, 311

“People will say it’s sad that she leaves a lesser scar, that fewer remember her, that she was love deeply but not widely. But it’s not sad (…) It’s triumphant. It’s heroic. Isn’t that the real heroism? Like the doctors say: First, do no harm.” -Augustus, 312

From my point of view this is SO relevant because I believe that as humans we are obsessed with “fame” and just as Augustus feared oblivion we are afraid of not being widely known. But at the end, how much does that matters? Heroic, as he said, is to be deeply loved (at least by one person) not to be “known” by a forgetful-crowd.

“The real heroes anyway aren’t the people doing things; the real heroes are the people NOTICING things, paying attention.” -Augustus, 312

“She is so beautiful. You don’t get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is. She is funny without ever being mean. I love her. I’m so lucky to love her.” -Augustus, 313

Sigh… This-is-it.

“You don’t get to choose if you get hurt in this world (…) but you do have some say in who hurts you.” -Augustus, 313

“I like my choices. I hope she likes hers.” -Augustus, 313

TFIOS – Quotes

A week ago I finished reading this book.

fa
I had many thoughts in mind after reading it but I realized that it wasn’t even necessary to write much about it because everything worth saying has been already written in the same book ❤

So here’s my brief thought which I uploaded last week! In case you haven’t read it just click it 🙂

First I have to admit that I’m not so fond of using post-its on books but this time while reading “The Fault In Our Stars” I’d put a post-it everytime I liked an specific quote -which was often- and look how it ended:

IMG_20140508_044734

So here’s the re-count of the my favorite quotes (at the end of each I’ll write the name of the character who said it and the page where you can find it if you ever read this book):

         (Some spoilers ahead!)

“I enjoy looking at beatiful people, and I dediced a while ago not to deny myself the simpler pleasures of existence” – Augustus, 16

“…you just ruined the whole thing (…) The whole thing where a boy who is not unattractive or unintelligent or seemingly in any way unacceptable stares at me and points out incorrect uses of literality and compares me to actresses and asks me to watch a movie at his house. But of course there is always a hamartia…” – Hazel, 19

“…It’s a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do its killing.” – Augustus, 20

“…That’s what love is. Love is keeping the promise anyway. Don’t you believe in true love?” -Isaac, 61

“That’s the thing about pain, it demands to be felt.” – Augustus, 63

“But I believe in true love, you know? I don’t believe that everybody gets to keep their eyes or not get sick or whatever, but everybody should have true love, and it should last at least as long as your life does.” -Isaac, 75

“We all miss you so much. It just never ends. It feels like we were all wounded in your battle…” -97

“You realize that trying to keep your distance from me will not lessen my affection for you (…) All efforts to save me from you will fail,” – Augustus, 122

“That’s why I like you (…) You are so busy being you that you have no idea how utterly unprecedent you are.” – Augustus, 123

“…I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once” -Hazel, 125

“…In freedom, most people find sin.” -Taxi driver, 157

“Oh, I wouldn’t mind (…) It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.” -Augustus, 176

And somehow that was the last quote from the first part of the book (according to the mental division I made) that’s mostly about the beginning of their teenage love story. After this, things get complicated and the further quotes are less cheesy. Seems to me that when Augustus Waters said “I’m on a rollercoaster than only goes up” he didn’t mean it was something necessarily good.

However next thursday I’ll post the last part of TFIOS special posts 🙂 regarding my last (but not least) favorite QUOTES.

Meanwhile again don’t forget to follow FERSTYLE’s facebook and instagram accounts were I’ll be uploading some beautiful fragments of this book ❤

How to lose a guy in 10 days (?)

image

A classic film, a must-watch for girls (and boys too), a romantic comedy that gots the perfect balance between the love and the laughter… or at least a perfect film to enjoy on a rainy day, lying in bed with junk food, a blanket and you own cheeky self 🙂

image

Aside from the actors that include: the romantic comedy actress for excelence, Kate Hudson, and the sexy young Matthew, McConaughey; the so dreamed work of every girl as a “fashion magazine journalist” and the best location for every big film, New York… this movie (as I see it) shows us principally how women and men have the same “final interest” after all because at the end it all comes down to one thing (believe it or not) LOVE.

image

Yes, I’m sorry to disappoint you if you do not agree with me but no matter how much do you try to act as you don’t care about it or how much do you pretend to have “bigger things” in mind… you (as me) will end up wondering about it sometime, or about that special person, or basically about the only thing that hasn’t change completely in this world and that no matter how much we hate to admit it, love, will always save us from being simple animals among the rest.

image

And all this is simply because LOVE is so pure, is so natural and inevitable that even though nobody is sure of how to handle it, no one knows its exact definition and nobody is sure to like it… every one of us have felt it at least once in our life and none of us can scape from it, none of us wants to either, not really… not at all…

ANYWAY 😉

I can’t deny that no matter how much I try to look farther in the hidden message of every movie, a chicflick will always come down to 3 main things :

1- The super handsome guy

2- The cheeky moments = best kisses

3- The cheesy romantic quotes

image

So now you know, if somebody ever tells you that they don’t give a shit about love or that romantic comedies suck…

You can bet that it is all BULLSHIT.

ENJOY ❤
